Hansard session:

The Hon. AILEEN MacDONALD (14:12): I share with the House the success of the 2025 Guyra Lamb and Potato Festival. The event has been bringing the community together for over 30 years, held over 10 days in January of each year. The festival was originally conceived to showcase Guyra's lamb and potato industries, which helped shape the town's identity and economy. While agriculture in the region is diversified—including industries such as horticulture, beef and wool production—we continue to honour the traditions that put Guyra on the map. Each year thousands of meals are served by dedicated volunteers during the festival, featuring favourites like lamb burgers, lamb and gravy rolls, lamb dinners, sausages and rissoles, along with vegetarian and gluten-free options. It is more than just a feast. Music fills the streets throughout the festival, creating a lively atmosphere for all ages. With Tamworth's Country Music Festival just two hours south, visitors can enjoy the best of both worlds.

This year's festival featured show and shine of antique cars in Bradley Street, the Antique Machinery Rally, a swap meet, and creative lamb sculptures crafted by local groups. The entire community comes together to make it happen, with volunteers working shifts in the food kiosk, manning stalls and showcasing local produce like jams and preserves. The festival is not only a celebration; it is a fundraiser, with profits supporting community groups and strengthening Guyra's sense of connection. None of it would be possible without the hard work of the Guyra Lamb and Potato Festival committee, which includes Chris Bell, Gwyneth Pearson, Carol Tierney, Julie Gittoes, Ian Castle and president Steve Mepham. Their dedication ensures that this festival remains a highlight on the regional calendar, boosting the local economy, celebrating our produce and bringing people together. Long may it continue!
