Barwon is a vast north-west rural electorate of 356,292 square kilometres and is the state's largest electorate, covering 44.5% of the state. It stretches from Walgett, Narrabri and Coonabarabran in the east to Broken Hill and the South Australian border.
Major centres include Broken Hill, Wilcannia, Bourke, Cobar, Condobolin, Walgett, Brewarrina, Warren, Coonamble, Gilgandra, Narrabri, Wee Waa and Coonabarabran.
The electorate derives its name from the Barwon River, which flows into and becomes the Darling River at the confluence with the Culgoa River, west of Brewarrina.
Tamworth is a New England based seat that includes the regional centres of Tamworth and Gunnedah as well as Manilla, Barraba, Werris Creek, Walcha and Nundle. Covers 19,974 square kilometres. Tamworth is the country music capital of Australia and attracts thousands of fans each Australia Day weekend for the annual Golden Guitar country music awards.
The electoral district of Lismore includes all of the City of Lismore (including Lismore, Lindendale, Nimbin, Dunoon and Clunes), much of inland Tweed Shire (including Murwillumbah, Tyalgum and Uki), all of Kyogle Council (including Kyogle, Bonalbo, Tabulam and Woodenbong) and all of Tenterfield Shire.
At the top end of the North Coast, Tweed is the state's most northerly electorate and covers the coastal strip of Tweed Shire along the new route of the Pacific Highway from Crabbes Creek to the Queensland Border. The seat is dominated by Tweed Heads, including Banora Point, Chinderah, Terranora and Kingscliff, but also includes Tumbulgum, Casuarina, Bogangar, Hastings Point, Pottsville and Burringbar. Covers 512.3 square kilometres.
Clarence is a North Coast electorate based on Grafton and deriving its name from the district's major river, the Clarence. The electorate also includes the Clarence valley towns of Maclean, Iluka and Yamba, and since 2007 has also included Casino in the Richmond River Valley. Covers 13,495 square kilometres.
Oxley is a mid-north coast electorate that crosses into several major river valleys and takes in the rural areas between the increasingly urban seats of Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. The electorate's major centre is Kempsey in the Macleay River valley, but further north the electorate includes Macksville and Nambucca Heads in Nambucca Shire, and Bellingen, Urunga and Dorrigo in the Bellingen Shire. In the south Oxley includes Wauchope and the upper Hasting Valley inland from Port Macquarie. The electorate covers 9,325 square kilometres.
Ballina is a far north coast electorate that takes in all of Ballina and most of Byron Shire. Major centres include Ballina, Alstonville, Lennox Head, Suffolk Park, Bangalow, Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, Ocean Shores and Mullumbimby. The electorate incudes Cape Byron, the most easterly point on the Australian mainland. Like many north coast electorates, the relative importance of rural industries is declining, the district's economic growth now based on tourism and service industries to support rapid urban growth. The electorate also has a substantial alternative lifestyle community inland from Byron Bay. Covers 874 square kilometres.
Myall Lakes is a lower north coast electorate that includes Taree and Wingham in the Manning River valley, the holiday and retirement centres of Foster-Tuncurry, and the Myall Lakes National Park further south. Other major centres include Bulahdelah, Hallidays Point, Old Bar, Nabiac and Wingham.. The electorate covers 5,181 square kilometres.
Stretching along the Pacific Highway from Coopernook to the Hastings River Bridge, the electorate of Port Macquarie covers 1,227.3 square kilometres and is dominated by the urban area of Port Macquarie and also includes Lake Cathie, Bonny Hills, Laurieton and Harrington at the mouth of the Manning River. Also included in the electorate is far distant Lord Howe Island.
Coffs Harbour electorate takes in the entirety of the City of Coffs Harbour and includes the localities of Coffs Harbour, Sawtell, Coramba, Korora Bay, Moonee Beach, Emerald Beach, Woolgoolga, Arrawarra, Corindi Beach and Red Rock.
