Tribute to Frank Spilsbury

The Hon. AILEEN MacDONALD (10:04:54):

I move:

(1)That this House expresses its condolences to the family of legendary stock and station agent Frank Spilsbury, who passed away last Tuesday evening following a short illness.

(2)That this House notes that:

(a)the Australian Livestock and Property Agents Association [ALPA] noted Frank was immensely respected amongst his peers and the wider agricultural community;

(b)Mr Spilsbury retired from Elders Real Estate Armidale last year after a distinguished agency career spanning more than 45 years; and

(c)his path into the industry commenced in 1956 in the mailroom of Goldsborough Mort.

(3)That this House notes that:

(a)Mr Spilsbury was recognised throughout the New England and Northern Tablelands region for the extent of his local knowledge especially regarding farming, grazing, pasture management and wool production;

(b)Mr Spilsbury was respected in the industry as a gentleman who was an expert in the field of rural property sales and passed on his knowledge to those who worked with him; and

(c)from 2007 to 2008, the Hon. Aileen MacDonald was fortunate to work under Mr Spilsbury's guidance after gaining her stock and station license and real estate license and can attest to his gentlemanly qualities.

(4)That this House extends its deepest sympathy to Frank's wife, Jill, and all members of the Spilsbury family noting his funeral will be held on 2 June 2023.
