National Reconciliation Week 2023
National Reconciliation Week 2023
The Hon. AILEEN MacDONALD (10:05:15):
I move:
(1)That this House notes and acknowledges that:
(a)National Reconciliation Week is from 27 May 2023 to 3 June 2023;
(b)National Reconciliation Week provides an opportunity for people in New South Wales to learn more about our shared histories, cultures and achievements; and
(c)National Reconciliation Week reminds us to think about further steps we can make to achieving reconciliation.
(2)That this House notes that:
(a)National Reconciliation Week marks two important milestones:
(i)27 May 2023 being the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum; and
(ii)3 June 2023 being Mabo Day.
(b)National Sorry Day occurs prior to National Reconciliation Week, on the 26 May 2023 to remember and acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people now known as "The Stolen Generation".
(3)That this House notes that:
(a)there is still significant work to be done to improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people including the "Close the Gap" campaign; and
(b)reconciliation should continue in the hearts and actions of all Australians.
Motion agreed to.
