Country Women's Association of NSW Awareness Week

The Hon. AILEEN MacDONALD (10:03:13):

I move:

(1)That this House affirms its support for the Country Women's Association of NSW [CWA of NSW] Awareness Week [CWA Awareness Week].

(2)That this House notes that:

(a)CWA Awareness Week was between 3 and 9 September 2023 with the theme focusing on increasing awareness around neurodiversity, which includes attention deficit hyperactivity disorder [ADHD], autism, dyslexia and Tourette syndrome, and the challenges those with these neurodiverse conditions face;

(b)the CWA Awareness Week included awareness around the diagnoses and accessing suitable and affordable treatment options, particularly for those in rural, remote and regional New South Wales; and

(c)there was particular emphasis on ADHD and the increasing number of adult women diagnosed with the condition.

(3)That this House notes that:

(a)CWA of NSW is calling for more research into long-term outcomes of ADHD in girls and women;

(b)with more than 1.5 million people with ADHD across Australia, it is imperative there be a greater understanding of the condition and that perceptions in the community are reshaped; and

(c)CWA of NSW held many events and activities in its branches across New South Wales and raised awareness around the urgency of the issue.

(4)That this House calls on the Government to continue to support CWA of NSW and the concerns raised during its annual Awareness Week.

Motion agreed to.
