Aileen MacDonald OAM MLC today noted today marks the beginning of last term of the year for year 12 students.
Ms MacDonald said students will return to school after this weekend to prepare for their Higher School Certificate, International Baccalaureate, or other end of school exams.
She said she understands how it can feel like a tough time for teenagers, but she wants them to feel assured that whatever their results they are not life defining.
“I wish every student well and hope the best for them over the next few weeks,” Ms MacDonald said today.
“I know it can be stressful. I know for some it feels insurmountable. But it isn’t. All students are capable of getting through one way or another.” she said.
“For most young people this is the first of life’s major hurdles. Some young people are overwhelmed. I get that, and I urge them and their parents to seek support if it’s needed,” she said.
While it’s true Year 12 is an important milestone, it’s not the final determinant in one’s education, Ms MacDonald said.
Ms MacDonald also reminded students they can access support at the NSW Education Standards Authority by visiting nsw.gov.au/NESA.
