Statement on the retirement of Leslie Williams

Leslie Williams has faithfully served the people of Port Macquarie for nearly 14 years. Lesliewas a local member who was not afraid to do the hard work to get things done.

When she was elected in 2011, Port Macquarie had been neglected by the outgoing Laborgovernment for 16 years. As a result of Leslie’s hard work and dedication, infrastructure andservices in Port Macquarie got the attention they deserved under the previous CoalitionGovernment of which she was a member.

Investment in Port Macquarie during her time included the Ocean Drive duplication, the majorupgrade of the Pacific Highway, the redevelopment of Hastings Secondary College and localsurf club and fire station upgrades.

In Government, Leslie was a Parliamentary Secretary and Cabinet Minister. Her portfolioareas of indigenous affairs and early childhood were close to her heart, and she worked hardduring her time as minister to drive reform in those areas.

Leslie is an example of a Parliamentarian with high standards of integrity and a positive rolemodel for her colleagues. On a personal level I have appreciated Leslie’s guidance andmentorship since I joined the Parliamentary team. Her departure represents a loss for theLiberal Party and the Parliament. I wish Leslie, her children Ben and Meredie and their familiesall the best for a happy retirement
