Get Moving This Walk Safely To School Day

Parents and students across Northern NSW are encouraged to join in on Walk Safely to School Day this Friday 10 May.

The Hon Aileen MacDonald OAM MLC said Walk Safely to School Day is a great way to promote health, safety and sustainability.

“Walking your kids to school is an easy way to make positive changes to your lifestyle and pass on healthy habits to your family,” Ms MacDonald said today. “I encourage everyone who is able to, to get out and enjoy the beautiful neighbourhoods across Northern NSW on their walk to school this Friday.”

Shadow Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said there are many benefits of Walk Safely to School Day including improved concentration and focus and reduced traffic congestion around our schools.

“I encourage all parents, teachers and carers to use this Walk Safely to School Day as an opportunity teach kids about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and have conversations focussing on key road safety messages,” Mrs Mitchell said. Always hold your child’s hand until the age of eight and closely supervise them until they are at least 10 years old. Until the age of 10, children should always be holding the hand of an adult before crossing the road.
